Acid Gas Removal Units

This page provides an overview of the acid gas removal units source type reporting requirements for Subpart W.

Please see Reporting Form Instructions on downloading the blank reporting form and uploading the completed reporting form.
You may also refer to Optional Calculation Spreadsheet Instructions to download the Subpart W calculation spreadsheet.

The acid gas removal units source type is applicable to Onshore petroleum and natural gas production (98.236(a)(2)), Onshore natural gas processing (98.236(a)(3)), and Onshore petroleum and natural gas gathering and boosting (98.236(a)(9)) facilities.

Indicate if the facility has the source type via the radio buttons.

If the source type is present you must report required elements.

If the facility has the source type, then indicate whether missing data procedures were used.

Reporting Requirements

Table D.1 Acid gas removal unit specific information must be completed by if the facility has any acid gas removal units subject to reporting under 98.232. Required data elements include:

  • Unit identification or name (98.236(d)(1)(i))
  • Sub-basin ID (required for Onshore petroleum and natural gas production facilities only) (98.236(d)(1)(vi)) - the pick list for this data element is populated based on the (aa)(1) Onshore Production tab of the Smart Form. Be sure a valid Sub-basin ID is used.
  • County and state (required for Onshore petroleum and natural gas gathering and boosting facilities only) (98.236(d)(1)(vi))
  • Total feed rate entering the acid gas removal unit for the year (million cubic feet) (98.236(d)(1)(ii))
  • Calculation methodology used (98.236(d)(1)(iii))
  • Are any CO2 emissions from the acid gas removal unit recovered and transferred outside the facility? (98.236(d)(1)(iv)
  • Total CO2 emissions (mt CO2) (98.236(d)(1)(v))

Table D.1 Acid gas removal unit specific information

Acid gas removal unit reporting is on a unit basis, not a vent basis. If your AGR unit has multiple vents, enter the unit ID, not the vent IDs in Table D.1 and aggregate data from multiple vents as needed in Tables D.2 through D.6.

Table D.2 Calculation Method 1 emissions is required for units with emissions determined using Calculation Method 1. Required data elements include:

  • Unit identification or name (98.236(d)(1)(i)). This data element is auto-populated from Table D.1 in the Smart Form.
  • Annual average fraction of CO2 content in the vent from the acid gas removal unit (volumetric fraction) (98.236(d)(2)(i)(A))
  • Annual volume of gas vented from the acid gas removal unit (standard cubic feet) (98.236(d)(2)(i)(B))

  • Annual average fraction of CO2 content in the vent from the acid gas removal unit (volumetric fraction) (98.236(d)(2)(i)(A))
  • Annual volume of gas vented from the acid gas removal unit (actual or standard cubic feet) (98.236(d)(2)(i)(B))
  • Whether the annual vented gas volume is reported on an actual or standard basis, and the temperature and pressure values used to calculate the reported gas volume (98.236)

  • Annual average fraction of CO2 content of natural gas into the acid gas removal unit (volumetric fraction) (98.236(d)(2)(ii)(C))
  • Annual average fraction of CO2 content of natural gas out of the acid gas removal unit (volumetric fraction) (98.236(d)(2)(ii)(B))
  • Natural gas flow rate into the acid gas removal unit (needed when using Equation W-4A) (annual volume in actual or standard cubic feet) (98.236(d)(2)(ii)(D))
  • Natural gas flow rate out of the acid gas removal unit (needed when using Equation W-4B) (annual volume in actual or standard cubic feet) (98.236(d)(2)(ii)(D))
  • Whether the natural gas flow rate is reported on an actual or standard basis, and the temperature and pressure values used to calculate the reported gas flow rate (98.236)
